Our true "nature" comes out during times of desperation. It is during that time that "survival of the fittest" comes into play. We disregard the people that we don't care about and focus on our own survival and the survival of the ones we care for. Little do we know that during times of desperation, it should be the time where we look out for one another, to care for the people we hardly even know.
With all the chaos happening around the world, in Libya, Iraq, US, and other parts of the world, it makes us think that the people around the world are starting to fall into darkness.
You guys might be wondering why I'm ranting about philosophical stuff. The thing is, just this morning I read news at Yahoo news about safe boxes, which contains money and other valuables, getting washed ashore and Japanese citizens are turning in those safe boxes to their local police stations. Ethically speaking, that would be what we should do. Society nowadays doesn't really work that way anymore. Many might disagree but most people nowadays are dishonest. Not because they want to, but mainly because of desperation, in this case, desperate to live. Money is always a big issue and is really needed for everyday needs as well as rebuilding their homes.
Its really inspiring when I saw this video.
During catastrophic events such as this, people would be crowding at the entrance of the store, trying to grab everything for themselves, disregarding their fellowmen. I usually watch videos of relief campaigns and stuff and all I usually see are people pushing, cutting in line, grabbing the goods like there is no tomorrow. Here in the video, people are organized. No one is pushing. They just wait in line.
What amazed me is that they never thought about saving only themselves. Despite the times of desperation they held on to their ethics. Honor, Honesty, and care for their fellowmen. Thats hard to come by nowadays when we are in such hard times.
